How to Get There

· By Plane: Scheduled flights (Austrian Arrows, Welcome Air, Air Alps) as well as charter flights from many major European cities fly to Innsbruck Airport (www.innsbruck-airport.com>). Whenever it is your first time landing in Innsbruck it is a special experience. The distance between the airport and town center is approx. 4 km; it is a 10-15 minutes drive by bus (line F) or taxi.
The international airport Munich is an alternative for coming to Tyrol. The best way to get from Munich airport to Innsbruck is to travel (approx. 2 h) with an airport shuttle (

· By Train: All international trains from every direction of the compass stop at Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof (www.oebb.at). From Innsbruck train station the main town is within walking distance.

March 27-30, 2006 - Innsbruck, Austria

International Conference on Alpine and Polar Microbiology

Innsbruck, the provincial capital of Tyrol (Austria), is situated in the center of the Alps in the heart of Europe. Settled pre-Christian, named as a town in the early 12th century, Innsbruck today bears the imprint of the living history of many centuries. Its most magnificent treasure, however, was bestowed by nature itself in the form of the majestic mountains and breathtaking scenery surrounding the town, to which the ever-present contrasts of venerable traditions and the vitality of a modern city have been added. Innsbruck’s rich cultural heritage and the fact that it hosted the Winter Olympic Games twice, creating sporting venues for competitors and leisure sport lovers alike, have made the city an all year-round magnet for international visitors and holiday-makers. This is a city, which brings together nature, culture, sport, tradition, and the flair of an international congress venue and university town in ways that are harmonious, yet never lacking excitement. For more information about Innsbruck, visit www.innsbruck.info or send an e-mail to office@innsbruck.info

The conference will be held at the Hilton Hotel (www.hilton.com; info-Hilton.pdf) in Innsbruck, which is ideally situated in the center of the town (10-15 minutes distance from Innsbruck airport by bus or taxi; 10 minutes walking distance from the railway station) and has a capacity for approx. 180 conference participants.
